I was surfing the net, looking for genealogical leads, when I stumbled upon
your Lowell Genealogy. You had several generations previous to those I knew
of: I wonder if you could answer some of my questions:

(1) What was the source of your info (i.e., where did Marjorie Whalen Smith
write it, or where did she find it?)

Marjorie  got most of the older information from a book entitled "The
Lowells and Their Seven Worlds" CS71.L915.  The rest has been pieced together
from reunions and family records.

I found a book, but have not been completely through it yet, that seems to
be frequently cited with regard to the early history: The Historic
Genealogy of the Lowells of America from 1639 to 1899, compiled and edited
by Delmar R. Lowell, The Tuttle Co., Printers, Rutland, VT 1899. (citing
Harlein Mss 1559 f. 215: Heralds Visitation of Somersetshire 1573, 1591,
1623.)

Also try "American Aristocracy"  PS129.H44.

(2) in generation 6, you have 'L'ayhouse, where my info has 'M'ayhouse. Any
idea which is right?

How sure are you of the "M"?  Probably a typo on my part.

I've seen "M"ayhouse in three separate citations--but they were probably
all citing the same basic information.

(3) in generation 8, you have two sons, Richard, and Edmond John, and my
info has three sons, Richard, Edmond, and John. Which is it?
(4) You have Gideon Lowell as a child of generation 12 as 1672-1753, but as
generation 13 he is 1672-1763. Is one of these a typographical error?

Probably typos on my part again (I'm having trouble reading my brother Dana's
handwriting.  He's written up a lot of this.)
